Unlocking skills in the lockdown

By Apalak Das

I have been taking lessons of Indian Classical music as a vocalist since I was 9 . My first Guru was Shri Kaushik Goswami while I was in Shrutinandan, an esteemed institution for Indian Classical music at Kolkata. Here, I got the opportunity to learn under the tutelage of Pandit Ajay Chakrabarty, a maestro in this field. Presently, I am learning Classical and light classical music under Sri Sounak Chattopadhyay, one of the renowned classical and Rabindra Sangit vocalists. However, I used to be so preoccupied with my studies and my job that I was hardly ever able to culture and nurture this skill thoroughly in recent years. During this lockdown, I thought of ‘unlocking’ this skill and started a Youtube channel where I have been uploading videos of some of my hitherto ‘locked’ singing ability since May, 2020. The aim is to entertain people with some good music, something that would please their ears and would provide a positive approach to fight this pandemic. Here are two of the songs I have recently uploaded:
